I was in Antwerp. German soldiers could be seen drilling in our tiny street. I could not speak Flemish and the Belgians could not speak English. I determined to get away from our hateful oppressors. It was four o'clock on a cold, misty morning when I disappeared from Antwerp. I reached the country outside the town and walked, unknowingly, into a group of soldiers. They asked me why it was that I was outside the town at that time. They spoke to me in English, but they were Germans. I appeared not to understand, and, as they were drunk, I soon escaped from them. All I knew after this was that I walked a long, long way until I had reached safety.

Source & context

Second of three explicitly separate same-week dreams. Wartime escape is dream content, not verified biography. Published historical reported dream: the compiler acknowledges secondary elaboration and fusion with waking material; this is not an independently authenticated untouched manuscript.

Anonymous child writer’s reported dream (Same anonymous girl, 16), in C. W. Kimmins (compiler), Children’s Dreams (London/New York: Longmans, Green and Co., 1920), Printed p. 90. Original English University of Toronto/Robarts copy via Internet Archive. Editorial title and navigation metadata added by Synastry; original source wording, uncertainty and paragraph/section divisions retained after scan-confirmed OCR repairs. Historical published report, not a modern Synastry community submission.

No exact dream date inferred from last night/Friday/Sunday. Sourcep18 says most main-school reports collected November–December1918; industrial-school reports March–April1919; deaf/blind-school reports June1919. Collection period is not necessarily dream date.
