I dreamt I was having a bath when one of our matrons told me to go into the dining-room to get a doll and pram for one of the children. She told me that I need not put my shoes and stockings on, so I went into the dining-room, and I was so frightened because I thought I saw a lot of mice and beetles running after me, and I thought they were biting me. And I was crying and screaming and I said I would not go into the dining-room again at night. When I woke up there were tears on my pillow where I had been crying.

Source & context

The child’s printed visual language is retained without endorsing the compiler’s disability generalizations. Kimmins compiled anonymous historical child reports. The youngest reports were mostly individually told to head mistresses, with a few seven-year-old written accounts; this source does not identify the recording route for each example. Kimmins admits memory gaps, filling in, omissions, fusion with waking material and secondary elaboration. Ages and historical school descriptions are source labels, not modern diagnoses or proof of authenticity. The compiler acknowledges secondary elaboration and fusion with waking material; this is not an independently authenticated untouched child-written log.
