I was sound asleep in bed when I was awakened by my mother who shouted " Quick, Frank ! the house is on fire."

I was up in an instant and was trying to dress myself when my mother caught hold of me and forced her way down the stairs. It was too late. The flames had hold of us and as I was burning I could hear the voices of the people and my mother's voice gradually fading and my body was all alight.

Just as I was feeling the flames catch my hair something went "bang"! and immediately I awoke.

Source & context

Distinct from the already admitted school-fire report on p.114; impossible burning is dream content. Kimmins compiled anonymous historical child reports. The youngest reports were mostly individually told to head mistresses, with a few seven-year-old written accounts; this source does not identify the recording route for each example. Kimmins admits memory gaps, filling in, omissions, fusion with waking material and secondary elaboration. Ages and historical school descriptions are source labels, not modern diagnoses or proof of authenticity. The compiler acknowledges secondary elaboration and fusion with waking material; this is not an independently authenticated untouched child-written log.
