In this paper, Dr. Gregory mentions of himself, that, having on one occasion gone to bed with a bottle of hot water at his feet, he dreamed of walking up the crater of Mount Etna, and of feeling the ground warm under him. He had, at an early period of his life, visited Mount Vesuvius, and actually felt a strong sensation of warmth in his feet when walking up the side of the crater ; but it was remarkable that the dream was not of Vesuvius, but of Etna, of which he had read only Brydone’s description. This was probably from the latter impression having been more recent.
