I went into the garden and there were all the roses beginning to open. A little bluebell rang out and the roses began slowly to unfold. The garden was a perfect bower of beauty; every rose on every bush was opened, the bluebells were all ringing, the other flowers all opened, the birds began to sing.

Public domain in the United States (original 1896 publication) ↗

The original April 1896 US publication is public domain in the United States by publication-term expiry. The independently read original journal scans and title page, together with article bibliographic metadata, establish the edition; Internet Archive metadata marks US NOT_IN_COPYRIGHT. This uses five complete quotations printed in that article, not the unpublished 381-record study corpus, a modern edition or a new Creative Commons grant. Expanded author identities and death dates are not assumed; no blanket worldwide clearance is asserted.
