VEDIC TRANSITS · NO ACCOUNT NEEDED
Gochar is the current sidereal sky counted against your birth chart. Enter your recorded birth details to see where each of the nine grahas is transiting, in whole-sign houses counted from your natal Moon or Lagna, with a reflection for every placement. No account is required; your chart is temporary.
A recorded birth time is required: whole-sign houses are counted from your natal Moon or Lagna, and we do not infer an Ascendant. This public calculator uses Astronomy Engine with a mean Lahiri ayanamsha approximation, mean lunar nodes and Whole Sign houses; saved charts use Swiss Ephemeris. Gochar is a symbolic lens for reflection, not event prediction. New to the tradition? Start with the Vedic guidebook.
BEFORE YOU EXPLORE
Gochar is the moving sky of the present moment. This tool calculates the current sidereal position of the nine grahas — the seven classical planets plus the lunar nodes — and counts which whole-sign house each one occupies relative to your birth chart. The measured longitudes are the same for everyone born at a given instant; the houses are personal because they depend on your natal Moon or Lagna.
Jyotisha reads transits from a stable reference point in the birth chart. Counting from the natal Moon (Chandra Lagna) is the common default; counting from the natal Lagna is also traditional. Switching the reference changes the house each graha occupies and therefore the reading, but never the calculated longitude. Both references need a recorded birth time; where no Lagna is available the tool counts from the Moon only rather than inventing one.
Selecting a graha or a house shows its current Rashi, degree, motion and the whole-sign house it occupies, alongside a short reflection written for that graha-and-house combination. The reflections are a symbolic lens for thinking about the period rather than a forecast. Rahu and Ketu are lunar nodes rather than physical bodies, and Ketu is calculated as Rahu’s exact antipode.
The public tool uses Astronomy Engine with an approximate mean Lahiri ayanamsha, mean lunar nodes and Whole Sign houses. It does not calculate dashas, Ashtakavarga, Vedha, Sade Sati dates or transit drishti, and it does not treat Western angular aspects as Vedic interpretation. Saved charts use Swiss Ephemeris, so small engine differences can matter near a sign boundary.
Gochar reads the moving sky against your birth chart. Each of the nine grahas currently occupies one Rashi, and that Rashi falls in one whole-sign bhava counted inclusively from your natal Moon or natal Lagna. A reading comes from the pair: which graha is acting, and which area of lifeit lands in.
A useful order is: notice the graha's nature and speed, notice the bhava it occupies, then notice the Rashi it is passing through. A slow graha (Saturn, Jupiter, the nodes) describes a long chapter; a fast graha (Moon, Mercury, Venus, Sun) describes days or weeks. Nothing here is a prediction of events, and a single transit house is not a complete Jyotisha judgement.
The twelve Rashis are Mesha (Aries), Vrishabha (Taurus), Mithuna (Gemini), Karka (Cancer), Simha (Leo), Kanya (Virgo), Tula (Libra), Vrischika (Scorpio), Dhanu (Sagittarius), Makara (Capricorn), Kumbha (Aquarius), Meena (Pisces). In this tool houses are counted in whole signs, so each bhava is exactly one Rashi: the Rashi of your natal Moon or natal Lagna is the first bhava, the next Rashi is the second, and so on. This is why switching between the natal Moon and the natal Lagna changes every house number while the measured longitudes stay the same.
It does not calculate dashas, Ashtakavarga, Vedha, Sade Sati dates or transit drishti, and it does not treat Western angular aspects as Jyotisha interpretation. Rahu and Ketu are lunar nodes rather than physical bodies, and Ketu is calculated as Rahu's exact antipode.
