When we came down to breakfast, there were only onions on the table. Every one seemed to be eating them and enjoying them, so I ate some and liked the taste, but the odor was very disagreeable.

Public domain in the United States (original 1896 publication) ↗

The original April 1896 US publication is public domain in the United States by publication-term expiry. The independently read original journal scans and title page, together with article bibliographic metadata, establish the edition; Internet Archive metadata marks US NOT_IN_COPYRIGHT. This uses five complete quotations printed in that article, not the unpublished 381-record study corpus, a modern edition or a new Creative Commons grant. Expanded author identities and death dates are not assumed; no blanket worldwide clearance is asserted.
