Only qualifying vowels contribute their Pythagorean values. A, E, I, O and U are fixed vowels. Y counts as a vowel only away from the beginning of a name part and without an adjacent fixed vowel. Each part’s vowel total is reduced before the parts are combined; 11, 22 and 33 are retained.
In ADA, the vowels A + A total 1 + 1 = 2. In LOVELACE, O + E + A + E total 6 + 5 + 1 + 5 = 17 → 8. The part values combine as 2 + 8 = 10 → 1. The Soul Urge for ADA LOVELACE is 1 in this method.

Does Y always count as a vowel?
No. This calculator uses the same contextual Y policy as the Synastry app. A Y at the beginning of a name part, or next to A,E,I,O orU, stays a consonant.
What if my name has no qualifying vowels?
The result is unavailable for that spelling. We do not replace the missing vowel total with an invented zero or pretend that it measures your capacity for emotion.
