BEGIN WITH THE METHOD

Follow a worked example

A small, explicitly fictional set of longitudes makes the arithmetic and the night reversal easier to follow.

Go deeper: the full reference

Start with longitudes

Use ASC 100°, Sun 40° and Moon 130°. These are invented teaching values, not a chart calculated for a real birth. In a day chart Fortune is 100 + 130 − 40 = 190°, or 10° Libra. Spirit is 100 + 40 − 130 = 10°, or 10° Aries.

Keep the whole circle

A result of −10° wraps to 350°; 370° wraps to 10°. Use the full longitudes rather than adding only the degree within each sign. Zodiac signs occupy 30° each: Aries begins at 0°, Taurus at 30°, and so on.

Change the sect consistently

With the same teaching positions treated as nocturnal, Fortune becomes 10° and Spirit 190°. That swap changes later lots that depend on them. A real chart requires a sufficiently reliable birth time and location to determine its Ascendant and the Sun’s horizon condition.

Keep the formula beside the interpretation

This is an educational guide to the Paulus seven-lot convention. The website does not calculate personal Arabic Parts. Follow the worked example or explore the Sun, Moon and Ascendant in a regular birth chart while keeping those tools distinct.

What are Arabic Parts?

A lot projects the relationship between chart positions from an anchor such as the Ascendant. It is a calculated point, rather than another planet.

Sect is the day-or-night condition of the chart. In the Paulus convention used here, the seven lot formulas reverse between day and night.
