HOUSE SYSTEMS
Equal House
Equal House creates twelve 30° houses starting at the exact Ascendant rather than the start of its sign.
The idea in context
The exact Ascendant degree begins the 1st House, followed by eleven equal 30° sectors along the zodiac.
MAKE IT CONCRETE
An example to picture
With an Ascendant at 18° Virgo, the 2nd House begins at 18° Libra. A planet at 5° Libra still falls in the 1st House.
How to read it
Find the degree of the Ascendant, then follow the 30° cusp intervals without assuming that the Midheaven must be the 10th cusp.
A common misunderstanding
Equal House and Whole Sign both have 30° sectors, but they usually start at different longitudes and can assign different houses.
BRING IT BACK TO YOUR LIFE
A question to sit with
Which placement shifts when you compare Equal House with Whole Sign, and what remains the same?

How to read it
Unlike Whole Sign, cusps follow the Ascendant degree rather than sign boundaries. The Midheaven remains a separate angle; it is not required to coincide with the 10th cusp.
Input and calculation limits
Changing the birth time changes the Ascendant and all twelve cusps. Equal spacing is a choice of house construction, not evidence that every life area has equal importance.
Compare one choice at a time
Changing the house system changes cusps and may change house assignments. It does not move the planets through the zodiac. These are interpretive frameworks, not measured personality traits or predictions. Private chart settings do not change dating compatibility.
Try reading your own birth chart
Create a free birth chart, select the placement or symbol you are learning about, and read it alongside this lesson. A planet’s sign, house and aspects add context; keep your recorded birth time and chart settings in view.
