Distance bands in the native calculation model
The native model uses distance to organize proximity bands. The current web map lets you select planet-and-angle lines but does not calculate distances or bands for a city.

In a fictional native-model example, a line 80 miles away falls in Strongest and one 220 miles away in Moderate. These invented values do not measure desirability and are not web map results.
How to read it
When studying a native-model proximity result, read its number, unit, line label and stated cutoff together. On the web map, use line labels without estimating distance from screen spacing.
A common misunderstanding
The closest line is not a recommendation. A line hidden by a web filter has not been classified as distant, and the native distance bands are not predictions.

Measure on the globe
The native calculation model uses the shortest spherical great-circle distance from a place to the continuous angular curve. This is not distance to the birthplace, a driving route or a gap measured with a screen ruler. A projected world map can stretch distance, particularly at high latitudes. This lesson explains the native calculation method; the current web map supplies no place-distance result.
The stated display bands
The native model labels 0–90 miles Strongest, more than 90 through 300 miles Moderate, and more than 300 through 650 miles Faint. Beyond 650 miles is outside that model’s stated display cutoff. These are chosen symbolic proximity bands, not scientifically validated influence thresholds. A band boundary does not create an abrupt change in a place or person. These bands are not calculated or assigned by the current web map.
Closer does not mean better
In a native-model proximity result, ordering lines by distance puts the geometrically closest line first. It is not automatically the best, safest or most personally important line. A farther theme may be more relevant to a question, while the nearest may be less useful. The web map’s planet and angle controls select line families; they do not rank lines by distance to a city.
No nearby line is still a place
If a native-model result contains no line within its stated cutoff, that describes only the distance calculation. It does not mean the place lacks meaning, support or opportunities. On the web map, a line hidden by a planet or angle selection is not a distance result. Neither visibility nor a distance cutoff assesses a location’s quality of life.
