Upright meaning
Death names the completion of a chapter and the work of making room for change. It is a symbol of transition, not a prediction of physical death; respectful closure can make the next step less burdened.
Reversed meaning
An ending may be acknowledged in words while old commitments still hold it in place. Let go in practical stages, with enough care for the grief or uncertainty that change can bring.
Read it in a spread
In Situation, ask where ending is visible now. In Tension, examine its limits or a competing need rather than treating the card as a negative verdict. In Next step, choose a small response using Death as a prompt. The position changes the question; it does not make the card a prediction.
A question to sit with
What has completed its purpose, and what would respectful closure make possible?
