Why birth time matters on the map

The map is a view of one recorded instant. Changing that instant changes Earth’s orientation and can move the angular lines.

Keep the instant consistent

A birth date and local clock time need the correct historical time-zone and daylight-saving interpretation to resolve one instant. The sky positions and Earth-rotation value used for the map must refer to that same instant. A familiar-looking map cannot confirm that an incorrectly entered time was interpreted correctly.

What birthplace contributes

The recorded birthplace supports the birth record and its local-time interpretation. Once the instant and geocentric sky positions are established, the map evaluates angular conditions worldwide. Lines are not circles measured outward from the birthplace. Changing the birthplace without changing the same resolved instant is not the same as choosing a new destination on the map.

Unknown is not noon

With unknown birth time, a single personalized angular map should remain unavailable. A guessed noon time can produce precise-looking lines without supporting them. If a time is approximate, compare only explicitly calculated alternatives or confidence information; do not describe one line as exact merely because its coordinates have decimals.

Keep source confidence visible

A map calculated from a reported time retains the limitations of that report. Correct arithmetic cannot establish that the source time is true. Record the information you used and revisit the map if the input is corrected.
